1.10 Draft with AI, decide for yourself

Use AI for a first draft, then verify facts and apply the five checks.

AI can help you start and refine an email. In an approved tool, give it the purpose, audience, verified facts, preferred tone and action: “Draft a concise email to the programme manager requesting approval to move Tuesday’s workshop to Thursday. The venue is unavailable on Tuesday; Thursday is available and the agenda stays the same. Ask for confirmation by 15:00 Wednesday. Use a neutral, professional tone. Do not invent details.”

Remove confidential or personal information unless your organisation permits its use in that tool. Read the draft before sending: check names, dates, commitments and attachments against your records. Run Purpose, Audience, Message, Risk, Action again. Edit the text in your own voice; never send an unreviewed AI draft.

Remember: AI drafts words; you remain responsible for the message.

AI adds a convincing explanation for why the venue is unavailable. What should you do?
